Caricature Friday...

Because this is my blog, I think that I will declare today as Caricature Friday! I was watching an episode of 'American Pickers' and thought those two dudes just are begging to be drawn as cartoons. And sure enough, here it is...

Have a great weekend everyone!

Moleskine Madness...Change that Icon...

I think that it's time that we change those tired old new year icons of the old man and the cherubic baby to one that speaks of new life. Yes, the indomitable mother goddess from Jung's archetypes should do very well.

Yes, very well...

Moleskine Madness...Do you have a massage for me?...

Ah! The Marx Brothers on New Years eve and now the Pink Panther films. Starting the year with the comedy classics. I created a caricature of Inspector Clouseau to commemorate 2011. Clouseau as portrayed by Peter Sellers is a slapstick buffoon on the surface but, if you watch carefully, Clouseau is a sorrowful clown, making him sympathetic through all of the madness. The 'Pink Panther' films directed by the of recently late Blake Edwards are some of my most enjoyable 'going-to-the-theater' memories of the teenage years.

Happy New Year to all!

Moleskine Madness...Solar Powered Hummingbirds...

I had a rare chance to go out and wander the garden and take the Moleskine along with a couple of the new Palomino Blackwing pencils. I was pondering sketching the walnut tree when from behind me I heard the fluttering of a hummingbird. I turned to face the sun that was blocked by a hovering iridescently sparkling blue, green, and violet hummingbird. I quickly tried to grab the image in the sketchbook. Unfortunately, the experience of the encounter is entirely personal and I don't think that I truly conveyed it through the drawing.
But, that's why we practice, practice, and practice with the Moleskine or some other sort of sketchbook with us at all times!
Happy pre-New Year to all of you! I know that 2011 will be the best year ever for all of us!
